Independent Shopping

Step aside from the hustle and bustle of Fishergate and Friargate, Preston's main high streets, and you will discover a treasure trove of independent shops pocketed away down quaint side streets. Off the beaten track you will find an eclectic mix of cafés, salons, jewellers, and boutiques selling unique and one-off items; from vintage and retro fashion to homeware and everything in between.

Cheapside and Church Street

You will find Cheapside just off Fishergate, home to Preston Flag Market and the Harris Museum Art Gallery and Library . Not only does the museum's gift shop sell Preston souvenirs and gifts, it also sells lovely handmade and one-of-a-kind items from local crafters. Cheapside is also home to Thos Yates Jeweller, founded in 1822 and tucked inside a stunning building from the 1500s.

Where Fishergate high street transitions into Church Street, you will find gems such as Action Records - an independent record shop and a haven for music enthusiasts. Church street also houses niche independent stores, including a fishing store.

Cannon Street

The captivating Cannon Street is a must-visit for shoppers, due to its fair share of boutiques, such as Retrogue Vintage Clothing, and original cafés. Down here you will find a range of food and refreshments, such as appetising full English breakfasts from Ravenous to set you up for the day and speciality teas from the Tea House

Guild Hall Street

Guild Hall Street includes a selection of offbeat retailers, from Preston Health Foods and True Colours Tattoo Studio to independent fashion boutiques. The street is also a must visit for delicious food and drink, both night and day, from venues such as .

Winckley Street

Linking the high street with Winckley Square, Preston's elegant Georgian legal and profession quarter, is Winckley Street. This beautiful period-style cobbled street is home to independent gift shops, unique bars, and tantalising places to eat - serving dishes from all corners of the world. Places to eat and drink include the authentic Korean restaurant Kimji and the contemporary bar Forum.

With its own independent gift shop and renowned florist, Winckley Street also makes a fantastic visit for gifts and for treating yourself.

Lune Street

Lune Street boasts a mix of staple independent shops, including the lingerie store Essentials, offering quality ladies lingerie and nightwear, and Mr Jethwa Menswear, stocking discerning menswear.

Lune Street's Central Methodist Church also host regular craft markets and events, helping you pick up something truly unique.

When it comes to food and drink, Lune Street will have you spoilt for choice, thanks to a number of cafés, restaurants, and bars near the Ringway. Amongst these options is 1842 Restaurant and Bar, located inside the old Corn Exchange - a striking listed building and former Public Hall.

Fox Street

Fox Street flaunts an eclectic mix of independent shops. From jewellery at DJM Jewellers, and musical instruments from The Music Cellar, to vintage clothing at Hollywood Exports - Fox Street is a must visit.
