Mick Shepherd (The Amber List) at Chew's Yard
Chew's Yard are delighted to welcome back Mick Shepherd to Chew's Yard on Saturday 31 May from 2pm.
You may already be familiar with his name, he has been writing and performing since the mid eighties when his Chameleons inspired Dancehall Giants hit the local Preston and national indie scenes.
Big Red Bus cemented Mick's songwriting and performing credentials as the band went on to eclipse the success of Dancehall Giants touring far and wide, releasing critically acclaimed singles and an eponymously titled album.
The band played up and down the UK, supporting the likes of The Stone Roses and visiting the shores of Norway three times to take their guitar laden pop to an eagerly awaiting Scandinavian scene. They also saw releases in Germany and Japan take their music to an ever widening and diverse audience. The band called it a day in the early 90s playing just two reunion gigs in the last 25 years.
Following a lengthy hiatus, Mick began writing new material best described as an indie folk hybrid. Inspired by the likes of Tallest Man on Earth, Tim Hardin and Nick Drake, Mick's songs also betray his lifelong affection for indie greats he grew with musically, such as The Go Betweens and Teenage Fanclub. His mix of intricate and energetic acoustic guitar, plaintive vocal melodies and emotive lyrics combine to create a heady mix of melancholic storytelling and social commentary.
Mick also makes up one third of local indie band, 'The Amber List' who are currently recording their second album and gigging extensively across the north west.
