Daytime arts and culture

For some enriched days out there are a number of museums and galleries to lose yourself in.

The Harris Museum & Art Gallery is Lancashire's largest gallery space. With an array of art and exhibitions to discover, there's hours of exploring time on offer and a café to kick back and relax in.

The Lancashire Infantry Museum holds the most important collection in the country and is the premier centre for historical military research in Northern England. The museum makes a compelling visit with free entry, extensive displays and a rich collection of history.

For a great family day out there's Ribble Steam Railway. Here there is the opportunity to hop for a ride on a steam train as well as a museum featuring static and working trains and a mini railway. The museum makes a unique day out for all ages and offers much to learn about Preston's locomotive history.

South Ribble Art Gallery & Museum is a charming local museum offering art workshops and crafts for all ages. There are also exhibitions to enjoy as well as lots of local history to learn.

Evening arts and culture

Whether you're in the mood for some comedy, watching a play or catching a gig, Preston has plenty to offer when the sun goes down.

The Guild Hall & Charter Theatre is the place to go for a wide range of entertainment. The events range from comedy, dance and theatre to sporting events and family shows. There are also shops within the building and a diverse choice of places to eat and re-charge.

The Continental draws in visitors from all around the North West with a variety of events. The venue boasts an ever-changing list of beers and ciders as well as fine food. Delivering live music and theatre to vintage fairs and writing classes, there's never a dull moment at The Continental.

Preston's Playhouse Theatre is the finest place for amateur dramatics and features local dance and drama groups ready to entertain you with live shows, plays and performances.
