New Heritage trail available

Richard Arkwright

A new heritage trail is available from Preston Visitor Information Centre, priced £5. A great way for the whole family to explore the city centre, hunt for clues and solve the puzzle.

Can you unlock the hidden secrets of Preston, a city rich in history that has been at the forefront of innovations in science, social history, sport, education and the arts?

This Trail will help you explore the places, people and events from Preston’s history that make up a story of Preston rarely told, of the innovative people who have lived here and
events that have taken place over the centuries. So hang up your car keys, grab a pen, get your thinking caps on and head out to explore!

HOW TO SOLVE THE TRAIL
There are two separate Trails which you should solve at the same time as you follow
the route around Preston city centre - a Clue Trail and a Picture Trail. The two Trails
will provide the overall solution to the Guild Trail puzzle.

THE CLUE TRAIL
The answers to the clues are words, names, dates or numbers that you will find
as you follow the route of the Trail, on buildings, monuments and other structures.
The answer will relate to one of the events or people in Preston’s rich history which
are revealed in the Preston Timeline on pages 10 and 11. When you have worked
out which event the clue relates to, cross it off the Timeline. Solving all the clues will
leave one date not ticked off – this remaining date will be used to solve the overall
puzzle.

THE PICTURE TRAIL
The Picture Trail consists of 9 postcards which depict people and events from
Preston’s history that have played an important part at a local, national and at times
world level. You will need to play i-Spy and discover the locations depicted in the
pictures as you follow the route of the Clue Trail. You will have to pay special
attention though since the photos contain artists’ impressions inspired by Preston’s innovations and not all the items in them exist in the real world!

There is one location that you will NOT find along the route – this remaining picture will be used to solve the overall puzzle. Can you work out which one?
