Step away from the city centre and explore Preston's gorgeous green surroundings...

Preston is perfectly located to enjoy walks throughout Lancashire. The surrounding diverse spaces are ideal for grabbing some headspace or mini adventures with the family. Just a few miles out of the city centre beckon walks of all lengths and abilities; from coast to canal and heritage to hills, there's a walk for you. 

If you're visiting Lancashire, Preston makes an excellent base to combine a city and countryside break. And, if you already live or study here then there are enough walks to keep you occupied throughout the year.

Lancashire Cheese Walk

This 6 mile walk is just North of Preston and explores the Lancashire milk fields. The walk focuses on the cows that produce our milk, the farmers who look after them and the traditional Lancashire cheese makers.

The route is gentle, though involves 25 styles so isn't suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs and those with limited mobility.

Beacon Fell Country Park

Perfect for those afternoon adventures, Beacon Fell Country Park offers a super family trip out.

Located 10 miles outside Preston, it's a must visit for nature lovers of all ages. The country park boasts well-maintained paths, wildlife, curious sculptures and awesome views across the Forest of Bowland from its summit.

Brockholes Nature Reserve

For a unique kind of nature reserve experience head to Brockholes, owned by Lancashire Wild Life Trust.

Situated just off junction 31 of the M6 motorway, the wetland and woodland nature reserve is home to rare bird species. You'll also find its floating visitor village, hosting regular events and fun family activities on top of its many walks.
