About Nature Reserves

Enjoy a piece of nature on your doorstep with Preston's variety of scenic nature reserves...

Preston has been praised for its many designated Local Nature Reserves. These green spaces are designated for their diverse wildlife and community and educational value, making them a fascinating place to visit if you're interested in nature and the outdoors.

Five of the Local Nature Reserves are managed by Preston City Council’s Parks Service, with Lancashire Wildlife Trust managing Boilton Wood. Each reserve has its own unique qualities and all are well worth regular visits, with most linking to footpath and cycle routes.

On site interpretation helps describe on-going work to improve habitats and bio-diversity, with an abundance of wildlife to observe – from birds and insects to small mammals – as well as wild flowers and plant life. And whether it’s a woodland, meadow, lake, stream, hedgerow, marshy grassland or wetland backdrop, these reserves offer a wonderful location to enjoy nature at its best, in our own back yard.
