Preston Guild City

Guild Wheel

Close up of Guild Wheel sign.

Preston's landmark circular route...

The Guild Wheel is a 21-mile walking and cycling route, encircling Preston and providing a link from the city to the countryside.

The Wheel is a great way to make the most of the many forms of landscapes that make this city what it is – by rambling river and canal sides to ancient woodland, city centre parkland, historic docklands and attractive nature reserves.

Start and finish point

The official start and finish of the Guild Wheel is the Pavilion Café in Avenham Park.

Temporary change to the Guild Wheel route

A small diversion to the Guild Wheel route on the west side of Preston is being put in place from Monday 6 January 2020.

The change is for safety reasons during construction work on the new Preston Western Distributor road scheme, near the popular walking and cycling route.

This will affect people on the Guild Wheel between Savick Brook and the bridge over Blackpool Road. Coming from the bridge, the route will temporarily run towards the side of Riversway and then up towards Savick Brook.

Once the construction work has finished in 2023, the Guild Wheel will be able to return to its current route.

For more information and a map of the diversion please visit Lancashire County Council - Temporary change to the Guild Wheel route.

Full route or quick cycle, your choice...

The Guild Wheel is a must for all outdoor activity and cycling enthusiasts. Whether you fancy making a day of it by challenging yourself to the full route, or prefer jumping in at one of the main entry points for a quick cycle, you can be sure this impressive ‘greenway’ won't disappoint.

Whatever direction you’re heading, and for whatever length, the Guild Wheel is a fantastic way to take in the landscapes of the city.

There are also a large number of other cycle routes in and around Preston. For more information see Cycling in Preston.
