Shopping in Preston
Shoppers visit from miles around to take advantage of Preston’s retail experience - and with good reason too...
This is the shopping destination of Lancashire we’re talking about, making it a fantastic place to visit for an afternoon or day trip out.
Equally worth visiting is The Miller Arcade, Preston’s first indoor shopping centre. This was constructed in 1899 and modelled on the larger Burlington Arcade in London. This architectural gem remains a draw, more than a century on, being home to a selection of shops, bars and eateries and is always worth a visit, by both shoppers and those who appreciate history and architecture.
Preston's indoor and outdoor markets are undergoing an exciting transformation. The markets remain open, with the new markets due to open in Winter 2017/18. Until then you can find fresh and local meat, fish, fruit and veg as well as gifts, books, clothes and pet supplies... The list goes on.
Preston features a large selection of high street brands and plenty of quirky independent shops, including beauty salons, boutiques, gift shops and jewellers. Better still, all these shops have a wide range of quality products and services on offer. So, whether you’re taking in the main thoroughfare of Fishergate or its many side-streets, you can be sure you won't have to walk too far to reach your next stop.
On visiting the city, make sure you take a walk down Friargate, Cannon St, Guild Hall St, Lune St and Winckley St to discover some hidden gems.
For a different type of shopping experience, there are popular retail parks just outside the city centre, namely The Capitol Centre Retail Park and Deepdale Shopping Park. These are situated north and south of the city centre and offer big-name stores, supermarkets, restaurants and leisure activities - providing a little something for all the family.
