With the help of a well trained eye courtesy of the Blue Badge Guides, evidence of an historic Preston can be seen all over the city. These professionally guided walks are full of true and amazing anecdotes of days gone by. There are a number themes and each is a great way to see the city and learn about its social, merchantile and industrial heritage. Alternatively if you prefer to take things at your own pace you can follow the Preston & South Ribble Civic Trust Heritage Trail following a trail of blue plaques around the city using the printed guide available from Preston Tourist Information Centre.
Walks leave from the Oblisk on the Flag Market opposite the Harris Museum and Art Gallery in the City Centre.
From the bus station - follow the signs for walkway to the Guild Hall. Walk through theGuild Hall arcade onto Lancaster Road. Cross the road and go down the street facing (Harris Street) . The Flag Market and the Obelisk are to the left at the bottom of this street.
From the Railway Station - tur right into Fishergate. Walk past the shops and department stores. After passing Marks and Spencer turn left into Cheapside.
The Flag Market and Obelisk is approximately 100yds on the left.
