Mela Preston

Preston Mela is now in its 14th year as a major public - community and cultural event for the city.

This event is a one-day flagship event to showcase and promote South Asian heritage, art and culture in Preston, celebrating cultural diversity and promoting community cohesion.

The word ‘Mela’ means fair and has its roots in the Indian Sub continent and is a celebration of South Asian food, culture and heritage.

The festival is a unique colourful and free event featuring two stages programmed to the max with live music and dance and hosts a variety of henna painting, craft and music workshops, delicious food, various sports activities and general entertainment.

PRESTON MELA is organised by a team of volunteers who dedicate time and energy throughout the year to plan, organise and host this event. To get involved in the committee please contact us through the details on this page.

Road Directions

From the city centre: Turn left at the traffic lights on Fishergate into Chapel Street, walk past Winckley Square. The entrance to the park is at the bottom of the road.

There are a number of Car Parks nearby including Avenham and Fishergate Car Park.
