Gemma Dee is usually serving up great banter and music on Rock FM’s breakfast show, but from Thursday May 15, she will be serving time when she is locked up in The Mall Preston.
The ‘Breakfast Breakout’ campaign, run by Rock FM’s charity, Cash for Kids, formally Help a Local Child, has been organised to raise £20,000 for Blackburn Community Sports Club. The club currently provides sports facilities for children from all over Lancashire with various disabilities.
Currently the facilities at the club are not ideal for all the children who attend and the money The Mall Preston and Cash for Kids hope to raise for the centre will allow the facilities to be significantly upgraded to allow the centre to be more accessible to children across all disabilities.
Ken Williams, general manager at The Mall Preston, said: “The Mall Preston has always supported Cash for Kids whenever possible, so when the chance arose to become involved in such an important and entertaining campaign, we jumped at the chance. Some of these children suffer more than we can imagine on a day to day basis and if playing a game of football helps relieve this suffering for an hour or so, they deserve the best facilities that are available to them.”
Gemma’s co presenter, Adam Catterall, will also be locked up in Debenhams window at The Mall Blackburn.
Spending 24/7 under the watchful eye of The Mall security team, the pair will compete against each other in a series of on air challenges in order to win luxuries for their basic ‘cells’. The loser of each challenge will have to complete a horrible forfeit live on air. The first presenter to raise their individual target of £10,000 will be released, leaving the loser to complete a final forfeit.
During their time in ‘jail’, Gemma and Adam will be broadcasting their breakfast show live from their windows and also be interrupting other shows to keep listeners up to date with fundraising totals.
